Re: Canoe seats

Thanks for the advice. After wrestling with it for a while and a little sanding in the right places I managed to snap it into place. It looks great in this canoe.

Canoe seats

Ok someone out there must have the trick to fitting canoe seats that work. I'm in the final stages of completing the Sasquatch 14 and have decided on my seat position and started to install the seat. I have bought a nice cane seat. I have cut the seat to fit nicely over the top of the cleats and the...

Re: Sasquatch 14 thwarts

The problem with placing the seat to close to the center is when you get a cross breeze you have a hard time turning into the breeze and keeping a straight tack. Using a nice J stroke will keep you going nice and straight on a calm day.

Sasquatch 14 thwarts

Matt

I have been looking at placing my thwarts for the Sasquatch 14 and would like to place my seat 18 to 20 inches to the rear from center. Wouldn't my seat really act as a second thwart so I would really only need one in the front?

Sasquatch gunwhales

Matt
In the instructions you call for a gun whale that is one inch thick. Does the one inch include both the inwale and the outwale. And how thick should the inwale be?

Another canoe question

I'm working on the Sasquatch 14 and am trying to decide on the wood for the gunnel and decks. I'm trying to keep the weight down but I feel that really need a gunnel that will hold up over time. I have a good price on maple but it is heavy. I am also considering cedar, poplar or aspen because they a...

Canoe question

Matt
I'm just about to start the Sasquash 14 and am making out my order for fiberglass. My question is if I glass the inside with cloth do I need to put fiberglass tape over the seams?

Re: Handles on Sabalo

Thanks guys. You all gave me some good ideas. I like the idea of the T nuts since I was concerned about trying to tighten a screw up if I couldn't get in behind there. The handles I have are made for Kayaks. They probably aren't rubber but a nylon webbing with some type of plastic sleeve.

Re: Handles on Sabalo

Yes I was looking at installing the rubber handles you can buy to the top of the decks. I'm thinking I would put an extra layer of plywood there and use wood screws. If you look at the pictures of the Sabalo you have you can see one of them on the top of the front deck.
