Re: Cape Fear

The weather has finally cooperated enough for me to get this project done and start paddling. :D I got the bottom painted last weekend, then it rained for a week. Today I can start putting varnish on the topside. Also almost finished with a seat. http://s300.photobucket.com/user/Sandy_Milliken/libra...

Re: Cape Fear

Almost done. Many starts and stops over the summer and early fall. Travel, work, stuff around the house, and more work. I was not as diligent posting updates as I wanted to be, but I was able to splash her yesterday. 50 degrees but otherwise a nice fall day. Pictures on Photobucket captured most of ...

Re: Cape Fear

Yes, clear varnish topsides. That is the plan unless the clear epoxy doesn't turn out so well. Then it's workboat finish

Re: Cape Fear

Fiberglass inside is almost done. first coat of epoxy on outside sanded. Shots from today when I took it outside for some serious sanding- enough to kill my lil' Mouse. Ordered paint- Rustoleum marine primer and Dark Green enamel. No Graphite for now at least. I'll switch to that if the paint ...

Re: Cape Fear

Thanks for the recommendations, Bob. If I can get a few nights on her this week, I think I can splash before the end of September. (Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Pro 19:21) I'm "repurposing" a nylon tiedown strap, the kind from ...

Re: Cape Fear

Update- Labor Day Weekend I've been working in fits and starts most of the summer. Too many interruptions and I'm not on schedule anymore, but still there is progress. Still hope to splash her before cold weather sets in. Here's the link to the build on Photobucket http://s300.photobucket.com/user/S...

Re: Tape Residue Cleanup Cape Fear Build

Thanks, all. The lighter fluid (and a bit of scraping on the tough spots) did the trick. I wanted to be careful with the solvents in case something got into the uncoated wood that would cause bonding issues with the epoxy. I got the outside seams glassed by Sunday evening- looking a lot more finishe...

Good choice. Easy to work with, light and strong. Finishes out real nice.

Tape Residue Cleanup Cape Fear Build

I used duct tape to mask my touch up work on the hull seams. Tape was on for about 8 hours but left a lot of residue. Lots of elbow grease got most of it, but there are still a few spots that are troublesome. I've tried acetone and paint thinner (separately) but it's still there. Is there a safe sol...

Re: Cape Fear

Serious progress on the boat. The hull is glued together and I'm beginning to prep for fiberglass. I got sloppy trying to apply epoxy between all those ties. Tried using a ketchup squeeze bottle and got much better results, but wasted some epoxy. The bow is shaped, still more to do on the stern. Wil...
