Which design for sliding seat rowing?
I'm interested in building a 16-17' boat for sliding seat rowing. I don't know enough about design aspects such as how much/little rocker is best. I thought maybe the Sasquatch 16 could be a good candidate? I wouldnt want anything too narrow. Maybe theres a model already used or midified for this? A...

Re: Okwata vs Southwind 15
I thought I would note here that I had a series of injuries (knee and arms) over the 5 years since beginning these boats. Am better now and hope to finish the Southwind 15 this year. I can likely only do one and feel its the better boat for me. Almost all panels were cut for both boats a few years a...

Re: Okwata vs Southwind 15
Over the last few days I found time to look over the designs you mentioned. Laker series does look simpler and quicker to build. Cape Fear seemed somewhat similar to Southwind 15 , with less panels so also a bit easier. If I felt I had time to build 2 boats would possibly go for a simpler design. Bu...

Re: Okwata vs Southwind 15
Thanks for the reply Mick. I think what you point out about the Southwind 15' being more utilitarian makes sense. Always tough to decide these things at a distance. Another big issue for me is to have good tracking characteristics. Especially my solo canoe needed a lot of corrective strokes. I'm mos...

Okwata vs Southwind 15
Hello all, I've been enjoying reading about the jem boats over the last year or so. Feeling ready to order some plans. I have been a carpenter and furniture maker for ~20 years of my adult life so hope to be able to complete a build. Also know a couple nearby surfboard glassers to help me with that ...
