Re: Upcoming Sabalo build in Australia - Now Started

It's a month on so I might be a little late with the response, but, maybe lower the end as you suggested so you can get better access to the front part and also extend it (back toward your goolies) so you have a horizontal surface for the cutting board and the drinks holder, don't make it too tight ...

Re: Hairie"s South Wind Build.

Mick I need to remount my transducer, it doesnt shoot through the hull worth beans. I was thinking of going in and taking a roto tool leaving the outside glass and epoxy and gouging out the inside . then taking cloth and epoxy and putting down several layers. My question is this do you think the cl...

Re: Upcoming Sabalo build in Australia - Now Started

bought mine from the US when the dollar was up around $1.10. Cost me a smidgen over $500 including shipping. If you are interested, I'll PM you the site. Like Pete, I was quoted $800 for the unit with standard fins, and then another $100ish for the turbo fins. Whilst I like to support the local guy...

Re: hybrid sit in/on

thanks Matt didn't realise you'd need to sit so high, I'll give it a go and see, but I'm guessing I'll build another of the yaks I've already got plans for first... :)

Re: North Wind for Fishing?

I went for a swim as I tried to re-enter I realised that as I pushed down on the side the cockpit would instantly fill with water. Being a large cockpit that would be a lot of water, I wasn't sure if I could re enter and still have any flotation. I was fishing with a buddy so got him to put is weigh...

Re: North Wind for Fishing?

I built a Southwind (can't remember now why I chose the south over the North) and use it for fishing almost exclusively. first modification I made was to put bulkheads under the decks for floatation, if you get swamped or go for a swim it's immposiible to get back in without assistance  ...

Re: hybrid sit in/on

Matt

Unless I catch a really big fish I'd say 200lb max of weight in the yak (although this would not include the occasional tandem paddle which might add another 100lb).

Height wouldn't be an issue, I sit at about 5 now (but the lags are lower)

hybrid sit in/on

I have a Southwind and I love it. I fish in it mostly and there's a couple of things that I don't like about a sit in for fishing. If you catch something you need to deal with quickly (some fish need bleeding) or squid which squirt or bait the inside can get a little messy and the only way to clean ...

Re: Minimum temp for glassing?

as Matt said, particularly when glassing leave it before sanding. I try to make sure the temp won't drop below 10 for the first 24 hours after work and then I'll leave it all week before sanding (although scraping is fine) If I manage to get 3 coats of resin on in a cold week I'll leave it longer, i...

Re: Canoe Outriggers

I like the Whirly solution to the beams which the wedge could be made of rubber and the brackets designed to allow some movement so that the mounting is "soft". The great thing with straight beams is they can be stored and transported easily, this seems to manage this and give a generic fl...
