Re: linear joints for wood strips/boards
Matt, as you know some of the pre cut boat kits these days are coming with panels having a "puzzle piece" shape cut into them for interlocking. I've been meaning to try it in my shop using a dovetail fixture. Not necessarily the dovetail shape itself but more along the lines of a simple fi...

Re: SS&G questions
Andy I build on a table about counter top height. Actually it's 2- 8' long tables that can be fastened end to end. Framed in 2x4 and covered with 1/2 plywood. It comes in handy numerous times during a build. If I need to hold a template or put in a supporting block I just screw it directly to the ta...

Re: SS&G questions
I do all my boats with a router. Let me explain how I do it. I take 1/2" MDF and lay my parts out on that just like it were the plywood I would use for the boat. Then I use 1/2"x 3/4" clear pine stock to "spring a batten" along a line. I nail it with an air brad gun. Take a ...

Re: Wadefish Rod-Pod Concept
Yea, the model rocket hobby is one of them. The problem I'll run into I already know is the tubes can't be straight. They'll have to have some curvature , especially if you are shooting for a 7' rod capability. Plus they need to be curved to aid in the use of them. I've had the gears turning, I just...

Re: Wadefish Rod-Pod Concept
I'm working on this concept for the Wadefish 2.0. Individual hand laid tubes using PVC as the mold.
PVC itself is too heavy. Center rod pod.
If the tubes need some curvature, I can do that as well.
As I get further along I'll start working on my concept with more priority.

UV inhibited epoxy
Anybody tried the Marinepoxy with UV inhibitors?
I would still prefer varnish over the epoxy because straight up epoxy I don't think will keep a "shine" but it would be added protection.
I'm a big user of Marinepoxy and have been for a while, just never used this one.

Re: Easy curves for cutting with hand power tools
I've gotten to where I template most parts out of MDF using a brad gun to tack 1/2x3/4 clear pine stock I use for a batten. Cut each line with a top bearing router bit. If there is an error, the templates gives me a chance to see it as you can rough fit with 1/2" MDF. Take Scotch double sided t...

Re: Big Thicket Sabalo
You asked for suggestions. If you are willing to absorb the cost of plans, epoxy, fiberglass, shop consumables, and most importantly the amount of time it's going to take, why would you be willing to skimp on plywood? I've gone the cheap route and the expensive routes. I wouldn't even plug a saw in ...

Re: Sabalo 12 Questions
Kevlar is more beneficial against puncture rather than scrape and scuff. When it is used, it's most used on the inside of the hull, not the outside. As for graphite coating. You can make a tougher graphite coating by adding silica. Only my final coat is epoxy graphite. The initial coats are epoxy, g...
