Re: help me understand scuppers
AHHHH!! thank you for the pics. that clears it up for me. i thought the blocks i kept seeing were all that was the scupper, i didn't realize the top of the blocks would end up being under or flush with a cockpit (or well). i thought it was just a block with a hole throught it.. i see now how they wo...

Re: help me understand scuppers
i must be missing something then. if the scupper was, say, 2" tall. wouldn't you have the possibility of having 2" of water in the boat before it could go over the scupper and drain? even more if the hull was a vee hull and the scuppers were high toward the chine? please forgive my ignoran...

Re: help me understand scuppers
draining for if water gets inside, you can get it out through them? or for while it's in the water? i understand that they have to higher than the waterline, right? but then, if water does get in, it will have that much water sloshing around in there. or is that the intended goal?

Re: Trapper canoe build journal
there is no doubt that this hull has beautiful lines. the images don't do it justice. i catch myself just standing back staring at her. you really have to see the hull together to appreciate the lines matt has done. it's even more beautiful than i had imagined. my build sequence is a bit different f...

Re: Trapper canoe build journal
well...i would like to say i did that. but i didn't. this time, i did it my way. not to say my way ir the right way, but it works for me anyway. this time, i didn't even splice the panels together. i stitched them. then i placed them on the form and played around with them getting them just right. i...

Re: Trapper canoe build journal
ok. i decided that i may have enough time to get this done. i bought more ply and started again. right now, it's all stitched up and the tacks are done. when that sets, i'll do the gunwales. that will be done before i remove any stitches. then i'll flip her over and glass the outside. i have the hul...

Re: A take-down canoe ? :o
i would use the deck as a guide for the bulkhead placement. ie...if your deck is to be 12" long, move the bulkhead back (or forward) 13" give or take. that will let the two halves nest together. plus, build the boat as a whole fist, then add the bulkheads and cut. that will ensure a fair h...

Re: Trapper canoe build journal
i thought about trying to salvage what was there, and regretfully, i didn't take any pictures of the chaos. it was beyond repair though. only one panel stayed intact and that was a top panel that i had a gunwale installed on. that one was bullet proof! all of the others were broken. and i mean right...
