Current condition of "California Sabalo from 2005"
I just reactivated my account here and want to apologize to everyone for diappearing from the forum without finishing a thread on upgrades, re-finishing the Sabalo. It is in great shape now, but suffered a blow from "flying off" my Vanagon roof a few years ago. I forgot to strap the front ...

Re: Refurbishment of the Cal Sabalo 2005
I practiced re-entry while the kayak was at this stage to see the benefit of lower the side panels along the cockpit well. It defintely would, but that is too major "task" for this time. Perhaps eventually lower one side 50% of the length seemed to be a good approach in visualizing the pro...

Re: Revised Bluefin 12' fishing SOT
Matt, How about lowering the gunwales (cockpit side) on one side by 2-3 inches for last 1/3 of the length? That would make re-entry easier...and allow sideways seating. How I enter the Sabalo is to lean it to the secondary...doing the arms pull and waist turn and getting my hip caught (barely) on th...

Re: Revised Bluefin 12' fishing SOT
Hi Scott, Matt, My thoughts are comfort and safety are getting significantly compromised by the center console mod. It's making re-entry even more difficult than it already is in the Sabalo. Can we see a pic with more area to judge by? Where will your chest and hips go in relation to the riser? Scot...

Refurbishment of the Cal Sabalo 2005
Recall my 2005 Cal Sabalo is in Matt's product decription for the SOT section...or at least it used to be...so many of you pro's have taken it to another level or two your pics are appropriate. So many great upgrades are decribed in detail that I'm glad I stopped in the sanding of the crust-away of ...

Re: Update on using epoxy dye in final coat
Hi John, Perfect timing for your post because I'm sanding/re-coating my Cal Sabalo and asked Matt about this exact step of darkening the epoxy glass-filler layer. Trying to catch-up to Bemm's new Sabalo! Would you please add another picture with a zoomed-in look at the wood grain? What type of wood ...

Re: SABALO BUILD
............... Guard against rolling over in shallow surf; it could get wiped off the boat? Maybe, shock mounted so it bends a bit? Your sounder mount with some give has got me thinking.......... Just how to do it not sure yet (read no bloody idea) but something will come up............any thought...
