Re: NT Trapper

G'day Whirly, that really is an impressive looking craft. I bloody want one! Re the international HT9000, it is now listed as a general purpose eoxy. I have used it and it seems to be fine resin. the only problem I had with it was amine blush. By this, I mean that it got a milky sheen on the exterio...

Re: NT Trapper

Mate, i forgot to mention, My paddle is 51 inches long or about 1295mm re the shaft, I started off with a piece of meranti about 32mm wide and 19mm thick X 1295long. I laminated the blade to this in strips 19mm thick (to match the thickness of the meranti shaft. when I got the blade width that i wan...

Re: NT Trapper

Any suggestions on correct paddle length? I stand 5’10” or about 178cm. The paddle is, at present, 5’ 6”. Also any info on good timber to use (Australian/available timber) would be greatly appreciated Mate, I like Oregon, (Douglas Fir) for the shaft. Lots of the old "Queenslander" style h...

Re: NT Trapper

G'day Whirly,

I use Picasa 3 to edit and resize my pics.

http://picasa.google.com/

it is free to download, real easy to use (I need that). I usually resize to 640 X 480 i think it is.

Re: NT Trapper

Ahhh, I think I know where you are mate. :D Re the stepping, no problem. :D In another life I was a policeman stationed at Cammooweal and often did little trips interstate :P fishing up around Massacre inlet, Bing Bong stations and such. :D Another tip. Before you start to tack the panels, look clos...

Re: NT Trapper

G'day Whirly, and welcome aboard mate. :D I love the lines of this boat and you are doing a fine job so far. just a word of caution if you don't mind. The bows came up great (well actually there is a little ‘stepping’ at the other end , but nothing the belt-sander won’t fix ) Unless you are planning...

Re: Sasqautch 16-33

G,day Dan, and congratulations on choosing what I think is the best canoe in Matt's stable of very fine canoe designs. I don't have the Sas plans with me just now but from memory, if you look at the drawings containing the temp frame placements for the bottom panels (along the centre seam). I think ...

Re: Saturation Coat

G'day Roger, Mate, I bought some ply from Australian Wood Panels that they sell at 4mm "Luan" ply It is in fact 3.6mm thick and the finish is almost as pretty as gaboon. The sheets are nominally about 2kg heavier than gaboon but about a quarter of the price. The downside to them is the ext...

Re: Saturation Coat

Mate, I think it is probably a good idea. The only problem I can see is with the twist in the bottom panels.

Pre-coating will make them tougher to twist into shape.
