Sabalo - my review 3 years on.

Hello all. It's been awhile since I've been here posting threads, but I wanted to offer my thoughts and experience regarding the mighty Sabalo as an all-rounder fishing/touring/sailing kayak. I built my Sabalo in 2011, and have put her to good use since in a variety of modes, so I think I am in a po...

Hi all. Been building again....

Hi all, it's been awhile since I've been here. I've been building again. This time it's a B&B designs Spindrift 11 sailing, rowing, motor dinghy. There are some days when you just want a bit more room than a single kayak offers, and I love sailing! http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h371/stevek...

Re: Northwind

Very very nice! Great looking boat. I'm sure you will get long delays on the beach trying to rig and launch !

Would love to see some pics of her on the water. Any reports on how she sails?

Re: Sabalo 15 or Wadefish 2?

The Wadefish was designed to have a hatch on the forward wall of the cockpit (the angled forward wall by your feet). I had a bit of a challenge even with my Sabalo getting a good seal on the front hatch. I like the top hatch though because of the ease of loading and unloading for touring. Plus the ...

Re: New construction method?

It would end up being a heavy craft. Two layers of ply to start with makes it twice as heavy for the same dimensions, and the foam has some weight although not much.

Re: Can you stand up?

Another option would be to fit removable outriggers. That way you can have maximum stability when standing and options available (eg. sailing your yak).

Re: Planning an adventure!

The first trip will be for only a week, and we will probably do about 160 kilometers (about 100 miles). This is really intended to be a 'shakedown' trip in preparation for some longer trips that will take us from close to the source of the Murray to the sea, a distance of about 2200 kilometers. Fol...

Re: Wadefish 15-27 for crabbing

Hi crabyak. Your build reads like a really nice and well thought out boat just perfect for you. But sorry, we live on pics here on the JEM forum. (That's because most of us don't read many books, but love fishing and boating mags  )

Hope to see some shots real soon!

Re: BigMal's Wadefish

Hi BigMal. Unfortunately it seems that your earlier pics have been either moved or deleted. I would love to see the earlier shots. Looks like an amazing craft. I love the center colsole/storage compartment. Well done!
