I only have 1 question. . . . why????

Aren't cats most stable at least angle of heel????

They call it a "cat" but at the slower speeds of a kayak, it's more of a pontoon. I bet it's pretty stable.

Wouldn't it all be initial stability. . . What happens when it does start to tip?

Isn't this the basic idea behind the Foam WYE 13-6? I seem to remember it, but can't find it right away.

I read a few reviews and the general feel I get is:

Pros:
Fast, very stable (even when heeled), easy to paddle since it can be narrower and still have superior stability.

Cons:
Tough to turn without a rudder, lots of hull slap noise in a chop, gets pushed around by high winds.

Their were some other complaints about the construction but that really doesn't matter in the boat plans world.

So it's a short, calm water boat, that is easy to paddle, super stable, and narrow. That's a huge chunk of the desires of the casual paddling market.

Here's a good summary with pictures of the hull. http://www.kayakfishinghole.com/communi ... php?t=1810

Ok

I always put cats in the good when calm box as an old ships engineer told me the mono hull boats usually had maximum stability at maximum heel & cats had it at minimum heel & that's why cats had problems in big seas.

Looking at the front profile, it doesn't look like it would be giving up too much when heeled.

Matt,

did you draw one up? it looks interesting and I am already thinking about what I will do for my next dive yak.
