40' tug

Post by Stephen »

Hi there
I am looking for a project to suit pocket and family. The 40' tug looks like it could do both. Has anyone out there built one, or considering building one? Have you seen any alternatives?
I would like an indication of the cost of materials necessary (built using standard components - if there are such items), and an estimate of time (ie 1 day a week for how long?), I consider myself a capable DIY'er.
Sadly this would be one of my 'in the future plans', but we can all dream.
Thanks for reading and any feedback.

Hi Stephen

It is an affordable project, but you will also get a ship 40' long and with plenty of room for both you and your family.

For the moment there has been build one 40' Tugboat, but I am in contact with many customers who has advanced projects for building one. Most are planning to contract a yard for the building but some plan to do it by them self.

Building a 40’ ship is something that requires many hours of work, I do not have any number, but we are talking of thousands of hours, so that’s why most people go for a yard.

Regarding materials and requirements the best thing to do is to purchase the study plans for the 40’ Tugboat. Here you will find more than 100 photos showing the interior and exterior, a movie from the very first launching, outline specification, hull material specification and plan preview of some of the plans. You will then have a good foundation for making your decision and the plan price is reduced with the amount you pay for the study plans, when you decide to purchase the plans.
