New Boat

Post by tx river rat »

Mat
I have just finished rigging the freedom so it is pretty well finished. I thought about the South Wind but What I really need is a Yak 12 ft long
30 inches, wide flat bottom. Similar design on the hull as Freedom with
a cockpit like I built on the freedom sealed bulkheads .
Ok now let me explain why I want these things in a boat. 12 ft will just throw in back of the truck no rack with tailgate down and be legal. 30 inches wide I have a soninlaw thats a big boy so it would be comfortable and it would be stable for new folks to try. Like the flatbottom for fishing shallow and stable put ins . with the sealed bulkheads you have the best of both worlds low seating position so is stable low wind signature. but works like a sit on top easy to get in and doesn't catch much water if you do turtle.

This design is very close to something Momo and I have been discussing except it's 11' instead of 12'.

What weight capacity do you need?

Hairy
Here in TX you can extend over back of the truck 3ft without flagging it
I have a 7 ft bed 2 ft on tailgate so 12 ft is realy the legal limit. I want this boat as an extra and a boat that I can throw in back of truck go fish for an hour or two.

The one we were working on looks like this:

11' x 30.5". I'll haven't run the numbers in a while but I believe capacity was up to 350 lbs for paddler and gear.
