I LIKE that! Question - why are the cockpits so far aft?

Don't know, not my design or Yak :(

To the best of my knowledge, it's a one off designed & built for a devoted fisherman.

Had to ask, Newt, because of my evolving opinions. I started out liking only dual paddler canoes; shifted to kayaks; and am now thinking that a solo, decked canoe is the ultimate tripping machine. It takes rougher wind and water conditions than a standard canoe, packs & unloads easy, portages the same as an open boat and better than a kayak.

In many places I go, the outriggers would get hung up; they require open water, I suppose. But sailing something like that would be a dream, ehh? Folding outriggers would be nice, I suppose.
