Building a Sasquatch 15, what is a good seat Height?

Post by ChrisP »

Finished the canoe (and it looks good) and getting ready to install the seat. So, what is a good height for the seat above the floor/below the gunwales?

P.S. Need to get the boat in water....

Thanks
Confused Chris

I'd take it out for a quick paddle with installing seats. Take a bucket our some pads and see if you identify a good height. 9"-11" off the floor is typical for that style canoe.

Chris,

What Matt said, but at that point don't fix it permanently until you've been out for a few paddles (unless you're a seasoned paddler at which point got next post). I found that I tend to put my seats too high and then when I drop it 2" from that point the canoe is beautifully balanced ( I think I have a good sense of balance which allows me to take this approach).
