Fibreglassing Northwind

Post by rodot »

I am now almost at the stage where I am to fibreglass the hull and am considering my options. The hull is lightwieght and made up with 4mm. gaboon ply for the bottom panels and 3mm gaboon for the rest.
I have some 4oz. fibreglass cloth available but it is 1 metre in width. Therefore I would like to sheet the hull in two halves with the 4oz cloth and overlap the keel up to about the first chine. This should give it some added abrasion protection.
Since the craft is not intended for whitewater or abuse I was wondering if this option would be acceptable rather than the recommended 6oz cloth 1.4 metre wide.

Cheers
Roger

You should be fine. Know that it won't take ultra hard use, but it will still be strong enough for many years of smart use.
