Matt several of your designs are square backed , why ? advantages?
I know this is probably a dumb question

There's a few reasons to do a square stern on a paddle-type craft:

-Need more overall displacement without extreme length
-Need more stability without extreme length (length does contribute to stability)
-Need more displacement on the stern due to an engine hanging off the back.

Probably a few more reasons.

My 2c... It also makes mounting a rudder a bit easier. :D
