Hey Ron,
I see you sit way up high in your Northwind and you say it will haul a bunch of weight. What do you think about sealing the bulkheads at either end of the cockpit and putting in a self bailing floor? I am about to start a mahogany stripped NW.
Thanks for your opinion in advance.

I have my bulkheads sealed.
I personally dont like the sot ,it makes you sit high puts your leggs and more weight high from the other bracing and second floor. Makes you sit flatter cant bend your knees as much for comfort .
I dont get much water in the cockpit and what I do get is paddle drip. If I did get a lot of water in it a spong or pump will take care of that quick and with the sealed bulkheads it sure isnt going to sink.

I am not knocking sot they just dont fit my paddling environment as well as the sit insides.
A lot of folks love them and they work well for them.
I think the above question needs to be answered by Matt more than me.

In most cases of paddling boats, SOT need to be designed as a SOT. Retrofitting a sit-in typically doesn't give enough weight capacity by the time you are done with a sub floor and scupper height.
