Newbie Fibreglass Question

Post by BigMal »

My apologies for another stupid newbie question.

When fibreglassing, do the additional fill coats add strength or just make it look pretty.
I am glassing my scuppers and wondering whether I need to extra fill coats to add strength or just stop after the first wet-out coat?

The fill coats add more structural strength to the glass , it should be filled till the weave is smooth.

Thanks OldSparky, I thought this was the case but didn't want to be wasting epoxy just to make unseen areas look good if I had my understanding wrong.

It's also for easy cleaning and wear prevention. Smooth surface doesn't trap dirt as much and less high spots means less chance of wear.
