I have used a similar product on my hatches. It is a marine weatherstripping. I stuck it down in "tacky" epoxy. Its been in place for 5 years and I have never had a leak. I got it at Home Depot for around $5. It wasn't foam though, it was rubber (or vinyl??) i think.
