Looks beautiful. I'm curious what brand and color of stain that was. I like it.

Great looking boat, hope you slime it with several coats on many occasions.

Thanks. I used Minwax  (please don't tell Chuck), waterbased. Color is verdigris.

I did get the message loud and clear from users on here and Southern Paddler that Minwax is not the brand to use for varnishing. I will be following that advice.

" MINWAX " :o  It's your boat , get a lot of sandpaper for later. That should be a crime to do something like that to such a beautiful boat , all that work to make something that nice and then you scrape the bottom of the barrel for something to use on it.

"O" Well I did the same on the 1st one I made but I was desperate and used what the hardware store had. Welcome to the club.
Life is a learning process and I wish you the best and that it works for you , sincerely don't think it will stand up but I will be happy if I am wrong. :D

Chuck.

He used Minwax water based stain not varnish. Its under the glass so it should stand up unless the sun fades it.

Was it a dye or pigment stain?

Yep, just the stain, and from what I've read should go a different route for the varnish, I will definitely be using the Z-spar for that - sanding sucks, and I don't want to do anymore (on this boat).

As far as pigment vs dye, I don't know, Lowes mixed it for me from a std mwax color chart?? Here are some pics, and no I didn't cook it, just put on my stove for the light to get a better pic.

Although not complete - do you ever quit tweaking - today is supposed to be the day I get out of the "builders log" section into the "out and about", but thunderstorms are keeping me in garage :(

I bought a plastic lawn chair and cut off the legs. Had planned to cut off the arms (and still might) but they are lower than the sides and may not cause problems. So in the meantime, I cut some holes in the arms for a rod holder and attachment points for flybox and small dry bag that holds keys and cell phone:
