The hull is just about complete.

Did the end pours and hole for a toggle and the screwed a stainless steel saddle to each end pour. I'll attach a loop of cord to these before I fit the deck so the I can install some bow and stern flotation bags later.
Fitted some 4 x 20mm tassie oak shear clamps. Laminated a couple of boomerangs to support the deck and fitted the mounts for the foot rests.

Tomorrow I will do a final scrap and sand inside the hull. Then a coat of Varnish, and I should be ready to fit the lid on the weekend. I sure hope that I haven't forgotten anything.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Everything is proceeding well. I think it was Mick who said that there is nothing that can go wrong that a bit of epoxy or sand paper cant fix.

I was going to fit some locating lugs on the underside of the deck as in Mick's build, but I did a trial fit and everything was as near as damm it, so I went straight ahead and fitted it together as is.

I did make up some gizmos out of aluminium angle just to make sure the hull came into perfect alignment.

and then made my impression of an Egyptian mummy.

I took the boat outside to give me enougth room to cut out the coaming and that gave me a chance to admire the lines. Gee it looks pretty Matt.

Oh well, I guess that now it is back to the joys of fiberglassing and sanding.

Cheers

Hi Guys.

The fiberglassing is finished. Hooray : :D :D
Fiberglassed the deck yesterday and gave it its first wet out coat.

When I started this boat, the one fear I had was the fiberglassing. This has proved to be unfounded however. By taking it easy, (less haste, more speed) I had no problems at all.
Perhaps the myth that fiberglassing is some dark art known only to the chosen few is perpetuated by those members of the Secret Canoe Builders Society who wish to maintain exclusivety in their elite sect.
Anyway, just two or three more coats of epoxy, then it's the coaming and then I'm off for a paddle in my Occy. I can hardly wait.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

The boat has been sanded back and the third layer of coaming has been glued and clamped.

So little to be done now, but waiting for the epoxy to set is a pain. I must learn to be patient.

Does anyone know if I have to let the epoxy cure for any length of time before I varnish or can I varnish it straight away?
