I spent some more time in the shed.

Last night I glassed the front deck.

Image

Then this morning I trimmed the Hobie Mirage Drive Well down to size.

Image

Image

Image

I changed saws to a finer toothed one before I did any cutting :D

I then set up the rod holders, drilled their holes. Cut a backing plate to make where they are fitted a bit stronger.

Image

I then glued this & also added a rib to the rear of the Drive Well & some extra fillets around this & also the scuppers for the gear well.

I then started on the seat well. I cut the froward section on the no. 2 station. I then used the second boats seat frame & stitched up the seat.

Image

The holes are for cutting out the Drive Well when the seat is in the boat.
I slipped some ply as a spacer between the front wall of the seat well & fitted the forward piece of the seat base so it lays back to the Drive Well

Image

I ended up raising it by about 10mm of 3/8"

Image

Matt should I support this underneath when I sit it in the boat or will this short section support itself?

Once this is glued I am going to look into fitting a 40mm tube each side as a rod holder.

Wouldn't hurt to put a couple shims. but the tubes should be enough.

I made the big step today & cut the side of my seat insert ready to fit the rod tube on 1 side.

Image

I used the top sides as a template to match the curve.

Image

My plan is to glue & glass these strips into the seat insert then glass the tube in place with the front cut out of it.

Image

This should make a pocket for my rods to sit in

Image

Already to start to glue.

Image

Once I have got the first side done I will do the second so I can carry 2 rods this way.
You may notice that the tube is short. I will fit the next piece from inside the front hatch so its easier to fit. They will also need a slight curve to them.

I also glued the seat frame with the drive well into the hull. but forgot to take a picture.

I got some more done on the Wadefish today.

I sat the seat section in place to see how it looked.

Image

Every thing fits so Im hoping it will work.

All ready to start to glass.

Image

Set up the side sections of the Bait Bin.

Image

And also added some stiffeners around the Drive Well.

I got some more done on the boat today.

I cut out the drive well hole in the seat, trimmed up the rod tubes & set every thing in position to see how it looked.

Image

Image

I also completed the rudder assembly & fitted it.

Image

I then glued the hold down bolts for the Hobie Drive with some spacers to hold it in.

Image

I also glassed the lid to the front bin & glued one of the tubes into place & I will glass it after tea.

Got the first rod tube glassed in tonight after tea.

Image

Gave it 2 coats of glass so I hope it will be strong enough.

I glued the second side of the rod tubes in this morning & will glass is when the epoxy has started to set.

I also carried the hull outside & did an end pour on the stern.

Image

The shiny section of the hull is where I have put on the second coat of epoxy. . . . I goofed & made up too much epoxy & that seemed the best place to put the excess.
