Good to hear things are coming along slowly. I understand the family thing always comes first mate. My one and only son is now nearly 20, joined the Army last April and now lives in Darwin, 4000 kms away, you really have to cherish ya time with them, cause it certainly does go quick, but you don't realise that untill they're gone.

Good luck with the studies too. Post up some progress pics if you get a chance some time, love to see them.

I havn't started anything as yet, the injury I got at work nearly 2 years ago has put me off work for good, I'm just waiting for the red tape to be finished and then I will be able to get on with life.

Been doing a little work here and there....floor battens are in, main floor cut out and one layer of glass, finished and glassed the forward compartment, rounded over the rub rail....did some demolition today :o ...cut out the integrated rod holders. Idea was good on paper, but didn't pan out in reality. Plugging along...one day she will float or sink.

Wow, Chalk she is coming along mate, it looks fantastic.....Looks like the little bloke likes it too.

Did you cut out the rod holders from the picture you just posted? They looked so good as well, what made them not work for you, just out of curiosity.

Thanks for the update. :D

Bemm, over in the States a lot of blokes have the platform up front to sight cast for redfish and the such on the flats, just to get a bit of height for sight fishing. A lot of the flats boats have a poling platform up the stern of the boat as well for poling the boat in the shallows for the same type of fish, apparently they are pretty flighty from what I've read, hence the need for stealth with the pole. Some guys also use the front platform for poling from when they are fishing alone. The type of platform on Chalks boat, I think they normally use a turnbuckle type of hold down to the deck so that its not a permanent fixture.

Mick,

Yes, I cut them out after the picture was taken. They were too close together and they stuck out...I could see them breaking on down the road.

The platform is for fishing and I will have one on the back as well...I want to finish the boat and launch it before I add the one on the stern...I need to see how the weight is distributed before mounting a stern platform.

This is a REALLY sweet build Chalk! WOW

You brought up two points earlier in your post.
1.) someone posted about Doug's Skiff 18. Man I have envied that boat since the day he posted it. It's such a sweet lil skiff. To bad he's not interested in sharing his freeship files!

2.) The gladeskiff...you said that you want your next build to be sonething similar to that. Have you found a decent knock-off woody? The FS18 is nice...but not a good design substitute IMHO. I too would LOVE a wood gladeskiff. I think a lot of Florida folk would! Have fun splashing your buc xxx. It looks awsome so far!

Yohan - I have not found anything - though there is a guy in Texas that has a wood boat he designed and built himself that is close to the glades skiff. It really a simple design not sure why it's not been made into a set of plans.

No - I have not splashed the boat yet....between school, work, wife, kids and another boat - I have been a bad boat builder. Though I did clean it off and in the process of foaming the floor as we speak....off until the first of the year - hope to get the floor in and demolition some of my past work  ...going with a more simple and less complex deck layout....will post some pics when something changes.

With great regret - this project has got to go...too many irons in the fire - going back to school, full time job and parent and all the other things that seem to take precedence.

Selling the boat as is, the platform it is sitting on (aluminum ladder), little over 1.5 gallons of epoxy, some fiberglass and fillers and all the scrap pieces of mahogany plywood that I have left. Comes with a 25 hp Tohatsu - that was running three years ago

Really only need to finish installing the front, middle and rear decks, paint the inside...add a layer of glass on the outside and paint.

Boat is designed after a Gheenoe but has a sharp entry - designed to be a shallow water boat.

Price is $300 firm - the ladder, epoxy and fillers are worth that alone.

No takers and she may see a Viking funeral (that's what Barhopr suggested)

Email me at chalk03@gmail.com if interested - pickup in Panama City, FL

May entertain meeting up as far as Moultrie, Georgia or somewhere of the same distance.
