Hey Matt!!!

Post by LEE SCHNEIDERMANN »

I'm on the downhill side of my first "Freedom" build. The wife loves the look of it and wants to know why I didn't just build a double so she could tag along.
So here goes my "wish list" feasability study.
How hard would it be to stretch a Freedom to 21 or 22', add a second cockpit and still be able to paddle it? Does your computer modeler go that long?
I'm assuming it would have to have a rudder.

I can stretch it as long as you want it! :D

Hope you have a trailer or long vehicle to haul it.

"Um.. I think I lost my freedom!!"

Post by LEE SCHNEIDERMANN »

Ok Matt,
I couldn't stand it any longer. I brought the Freedom out unfinished, just to "give her a go". Unfortunately, my good wife was along for the sea trials and before the day was over she informed me I'd be needing to build myself a boat 'cause she was going to be using "this one".
You mentioned you could stretch the Freedom out. What will it take in $US, to get an eighteen foot- six inch version of the "Freedom"?
I want the same beam, just an extra 3' for gear and a little "stretchin' out room"

Lee

PS It's a brilliant boat! I love the way it handles and performs! :D :D :D

Lee....

Save your marriage , have a single one for each of you. Or should I say , another one for you to paddle since yours has had a claim filed on it.

Now if you want to be sneaky and have a good time on the water , do the double and make sure the wife is in front paddling , you can sit back , have a cold drink and determine the direction the Freedom goes with the rudder.
Just make sure when she turns around you have a paddle in your hands.

I would say 19 feet for the double , this offers a lot of storage between the two cockpits and some additonal leg room. 19 would work for cartopping and offer a lot of room on the water.

Most solo sea kayaks are 17 1/2 feet for a solo , the additional 1 1/2 feet offers a lot more room.

What about just building another Freedom in the 13' range?

Rumor has it a 13' x 30" one has been cooking for some time now.

Pretty sure of what I'm looking for

Post by LEE SCHNEIDERMANN »

Matt,(and Chuck)
My desire for 18'-6" stems from the fact it will be a single. Sue is going to need a sherpa for her "touring" mode and I'm "it".
I'm confident I'll be able to push the beast where ever I need to, but I know I'll have to carry most of our gear when she's along.
I can add a rudder if I find I need it. God knows the 15-4 tracks like a train.
Are we talking 100s or 1000s to draw one up? :? :?

There goes your life savings , a 2 and 3rd mortgage and all the winnings from the lottery if you hit it and that's just the down payment.

But you will have a great boat and who needs anything more. :D
