straps should able to get that done. If not, you could splice on some extra width on the deck panel.

It will definitely pull in to meet. I can manage that with my hands so straps will definitely do it. The real question was if I strapped it how would I get the deck on? If I set it up like the diagram above I can fill the glue from the outside with the straps on, and then fill in the bits where the straps were once the rest is cured.

oops. forgot to talk to that. The diagram looks fine. Don't go too big on the gunnels.

If you strap it, tack weld the gaps right up to the straps. When it's cured, carefully slide the strap down and finish filling the seam. The glue will hold.

I just stitched and filled from outside at deck join.........there is quiet a vee to fill with thickened epoxy and also it is glassed over afterwords
Personally I wouldn't include sheer clamps you sketched..........extra wood = extra weight

Maybe yours lined up differently. My hull is wider than the deck section, so there is no V to fill unless I can pull in in far enough with straps. I'll try it and see. As for the sheer clamps, I reckon they would weigh no more than 150g. I plan to use very light pine timber and not very big, probably 20mm x 12mm.

Ok, I did a dummy run with it and I could do what you did Paul. But remember I'm going to have a mast step set into the foredeck and I would like extra strength up there. I will be reinforcing the area where the mast step is going with 10mm ply across the underside, about 6" wide, and having sheer clamps to attach the deck and reinforcing to would be extra insurance.

I'm not ready to install the deck yet, but I always like to be 3-4 steps ahead in my mind so that there are no (well...less) nasty surprises.

Think about where your rudder cable tubes will go they need to be inplace before deck also transducer for sounder if you are having one mine shoots thru hull.

Yes, thanks Paul. I have already thought about those things, as well as rod holder positions so I can reinforce where they are going to go, as well as where hatches will go etc. I will be gluing some reinforcing pieces to the CP, TW and relevant hull spots before everything gets enclosed. I have been looking at rudder cable placement and the position for the transducer. Where did you place your tranny? I know that some people attach it to their rudder, that is an interesting idea.
