New SOT or Mod SINK

Post by gofish44 »

Introduction: I'm 68 retired, 250 lbs, 6'4", inseam 33". I live in WA, S Puget Sound, Tacoma area. 2 adopted boys 13 and 12, both very interested in fishing, 12 yr old more so, but competition will prevail!

Currently building a 17 sink, ready to fiberglass the decks; I found the JEM site after becoming interested in SOT for more fishing. Yesterday I got the idea to modify the sink into a sot, I have a 22 x 58' cockpit area with rudder controls installed; would agree with this mod, or leave as is? Which of your SOT's would you suggest for me if no mod on 17' .

I've almost all the forum subjects with great interest!

Sit insides don't translate directly to SOTs. sometimes it works but the main factor is how much weight on board you are looking to support.

We take that weight plus the hull weight, and find how deep the hull will sink into the water. The cockpit subfloor is then placed above that waterline.

What's max weight on board you're looking to support?

I would think I'd expect a total wgt of 350 to 450. Crab, shimp with collapsible traps, salmon fishing gear. I probably wouldn't fish the coast with much surf.

Which of your sot's would be best for me.

I used to go 275# and my Cape Fear paddles like a streak. Handles some surf with little overspray.
