What type of wood to make gunwales for the tv 29

Post by jackjama »

I am moving along on my tv29. While i am awiting lfor some stuff to dry, I will be putting my attention to the gunwales. I will have four foot of decking in the front and three foot in the back so the gunwales will, get some help. What type of wood would be acceptable. Without going to a specialty lumber store across town, I can get my hands on western red cedar, poplar, oak, and radiata pine.

I was thinking about using cedar unless someone talks me out of it. The rest of the boat is cedar strip.

A species with good stiffness: Ash is my favorite. I've used pine before. Avoid Poplar... too brittle.
