3 oz Cloth

Post by rodot »

There is a mob here in Australia selling 3 oz (98 gms) fibreglass cloth at a reasonable cost. Wondering if this would be suitable for a Kayak, or is it a little too much on the light side. Perhaps it could be used for the deck. Anyone have any opinions?

I used 84g (about 2.5 oz) cloth on my Laker - no problems at all. Also used it on another boat.

Tried a cheap cloth bought over the net from some mob in NSW and it was absolute rubbish so be careful of your sources. I suspect the dodgy one was for polyester resin even though the seller promoted it as suitable for use with epoxy.

My cloth and resin are both from FGI via Adelaide Moulding and Casting Supplies.
Cheers, Bob

Laker 13 - christened and slimed (just).
Laker accessories underway.

Thanks Bob. The cloth I was looking at is on Ebay and it could very well be the stuff you refer to. I will heed your warning and stick to a supplier I am confident with.
