I need a canoe

Post by neon14 »

Been thinking about a canoe lately. I have a paddle board, and a SOT already. Love them both. Feel like I need a solo canoe, something small like my sabalo 12. Easy to van top or put in the bed of the truck. Fish mostly the frio and guadalupe in central Texas. Need it to be light and easy to carry. Kind of thinking the Sasquatch 12. Anyone on here build one?

I made the 14 and it is one sweet solo canoe. If you decide on a solo canoe I would suggest the Sasquatch 14 and you can't go wrong with it. Mine weighs 30 pounds and is a dream to paddle.
Here are some pictures and a little chatter about it. ....

Here is the build with a lot of chatter back and forth.

Sasquatch is one of my favorite traditional canoe designs.

Now if you want something a little different, I have one from my top secret "skunkworks" shop.

-13' x 28"
-Has a flat bottom styled like my Freedom kayak
-Wide flared sides yet still easy to paddle
-Can be built from 2 sheets of plywood.
-Designed for a Hairy fella down under be he got too busy having fun with his new bride (where's his priorities??)

That is one nice looking Sasquatch 14. Beautiful looking canoe.

I like the top secret Hairy fella canoe also. I was looking at the cape fear and noticed it was also offered in a SOT. Got me thinking. I really like the way my sabalo 12 paddles. When I built it I cut an extra of each hull panel just in case I ever wanted to build another one. I could make a canoe out of it, but it would not look like a traditional canoe. I like the traditional canoe look....could build both of them.

The more I think about it the Sasquatch 14 is prolly the best canoe for me to build. It will paddle better than the shorter version and still be light and easy to handle. Its a great looking canoe.
