Wow! What happened? That year went fast. Time travel I guess. Well life got pretty busy with 2 boys in highs school, work, and having a house built. Got the canoe out last month and started working on it again.

Got the inside glassed and putting on all the little tid-bits. I used a foam roller for the first time to glass the inside and it worked very well. Trying to build it as light as I can. Just glad to get back working on this thing.

Well, the house is done and we are moved in. Time to get back to work again. This has nothing to do with the build other than to motivate me. My sister hauled off and got married in Hawaii and brought me back this cool paddle. And a solar powered hula girl, I wont post a pick of it unless somebody wants to see it.Image
I often paddle up a creek

Been trying to post for awhile just haven’t had time. Put it in the water for a quick test paddle to figure out seat placement and stuff. I knew it was going to paddle good, but it far exceeded my expectations. Thing paddles incredible! Tracks well and its super fast.

So I got right to working on the seat.

As it sits right now...just a tick under 31 pounds :D . It will prolly gain a couple more before its done, but for right now I’m going to use it a few times before doing the finish work.

I do have to say this boat wound up with a few imperfections that will show even when its done :( but its ok. I can make the next one better! The wood was really thin and difficult to work with. Some of the panels didn’t align well especially where the fiberglass butt joints are. Then it sat for about a year with no glass on the inside and the roof leaked in the shed so it got wet. I almost quit right there. The top panel warped pretty bad and I had to make a bunch of relief cuts to pull it out (Ill post pics of that whole process later). But I’m glad I stuck with it because this is going to be a great little boat.

And I have to say...it paddles like a dream.

Nice Job :D

I hope you will be as happy with yours that I am with mine. I built mine in the Summer of 2008 and the canoe ( Sasquatch 14 ) came out at the total of 30 pounds with a 2 pound ( Cane ) seat in it.
The Sasquatch is a sweet paddling canoe and a conversation maker if anyone is close by , there are always some questions about the canoe from onlookers.

Don't worry about those imperfections you mentioned , only you know they are there , no one will notice them unless you point them out. If you do then they were intended as part of the build.

Chuck.
PS. The Sasquatch will hold a lot of camping gear.

So I decide to go fishing. Load the canoe on top of my 1981 Datsun diesel pickup. That I paid 400 dollars for.

I head up a creek!

I caught this little bass, I always like to take pick of the first fish I catch in a new boat.

Its kind of like its becoming of or something. Rite of passage for a new boat.
