No not that one!

Often when we build kayaks and canoes, we forget to think about what kind of seating we'll use.

Here's a couple of examples to consider:

1. On The Floor:

Keep in mind the above are for flat-bottomed boats. If you have any sort of V on the hull bottom, you'll need to make adjustments.

For V-bottom boats:

Carve a seat from a piece of close-celled foam:

Sit On Top kayak seats offer a good alternative. Install some pad eyes, clip on, and you're ready to go:



2. Canoe Style Seats

Here's some seats for mounting right at the sheer line. The one on the right combines a yoke and seat.


You can also hang the bench style seat lower for better center of gravity.


For easy trimming of your canoe, you can install a sliding seat:


Overall, there are many options. Best advice we have is to try a temporary set up to see how you like it before making any permanent additions to your boat.

The one I made up and gave to Uncle John who sells the plans for , is removable and can be used for a camp seat when not paddling.

Heck , John's wife, Barbara, takes one to the local foot ball games so she can watch the games in comfort. I know you are way to young to have any back problems but that seat sure stops them when out paddling or just lazing around in camp and then you don't have to take a camping chair with you since you use it while paddling, one less item to drag along when camping.

Nope ... I don't sell them or get anything from the sale of the plans .... Just friends helping friends , but Uncle John will charge you for the plans after all he is running a business , like Matt.... I'm not , I'm just having fun.

By the way .... That is the seat I use in the Swamp Girl , A great paddling boat and a comfortable seat..... Who could ask for more.

This is great .... The Canned Canoe Seat I have used in the past for some of the Pirogues and one Canoe I have made ......I purchased the seats from Piragis since they were the only ones that handled them......

The Canned Canoe Seat from Piragis starts at $25.00 and you have them for $20.00.

The Webbed Canoe Seat at Piragis is $30.00 and yours are $21.00.
The Yoke Seat they don't even offer at Piragis.

When and if I make a pirogue for someone and they want one of the traditional canoe seats in it , I know where to get there seat.

I don't stock them so no money invested in carrying inventory. No sense in passing that onto the customer. Shipping might hurt in some cases but you can avoid local state sales tax if you buy online.

Just depends on what's convenient. I'm basically just selling for those who don't have a local paddle shop to go to. I'll be listing some more neat stuff they have later on.

I thought about listing some plans to cane your own seat. But it gets expensive. By the time you get the supplies delivered (I don't have a local shop that carries that stuff) and go through all the fuss of cutting drilling and then caning, it's MUCH cheap just to buy a seat. For me, I'd pick the nylon web seat. Doesn't look as pretty but more comfortable.

I'll also be offering my own fiberglass canoe tractor seat soon.

All that matters is that it is a savings to the builder and comfort to there posterior when paddling while having the availability of quality merchandise for there boat.

Something unusual in today's market.
