Motorboat Mark V

Post by guest »

On the Motorboat mark V, can the motor well be removed and the motor fitted on the transom to create more room in the rear cockpit?

Also, can the 21ft garvey be build lighter not for offshore use. I like this boat but only need semi protected waters and a small outboard motor.

Thanks Ray

Sure it is possible to have the outboard on the transom, but you will have to make some changes where the outboard well is now. All in all it will give you some more room in the cockpit.

It is not easy to make the 21ft Garvey flex lighter. The main reason for the scantlings is the dynamic pressure that comes from slamming, and of course the slamming is smaller in semi protected waters but not as much as one can expect. So the bottom line is that you will be able to reduce the hull weight with some 50-100 kg [110-220 lbs].
