Wow ... she looks better than I thought she would. When I sketched it, I knew the lines were pretty but that bow-quarter shot really shows her off nicely.

I found a little bit "smoother" way to shape the panel in my software. Did the panels come together nicely? I'm hoping they did.

I've been wanting to design a real simple SOT kayak. This might be the platform for that.

I like this boat. Mick will have another one built before I am done with mine.

She came together beautifully.I was enjoying myself that much, I forgot to eat lunch and dinner. When I stopped to take some piccies, I noticd it was dark.

I think I am more excited about this boat than Robin is and that is saying something. Apart from the panel splicing, All that was done today in about 7 hours and I was just messing about.

Before I turned her over, I walked round her a few times and was thinking the same thing re a SOT.

From the plans, I thought the bow was a bit high and the rake might be a little long, but I just love the lines now. The curve of the top panel gives the illusion that there is a lot more rocker than there really is.

I think she will be a real head turner and, with decks, would probably make a real nice rec kayak. Still undecided about what to do with mini decks yet but I might extend them back about 30 inches or so to give Robin somewhere to put stuff out of the weather.

We must have been posting at the same time mate.

Only Robin and I have seen this boat in the flesh so far, But she really does have lovely lines. I am certain that Matt will be receiving more inquiies from Oz about plans for this one.

Dontcha just hate it when you have to wait for the epoxy to set before you can get back into it.

Don't worry about me spitting boats out mate. You just focus on your boat and enjoy your self building it. I become obsessed once I start a build and just can't wait to get back into the next stage. If I were more patient, I would be able to do a better job

Thanks Mick. I am putting a small deck on the front of mine. Matt and I designed it into the plans but, I am modifing the design slightly, I am adding some "pitch" I guess is the term I want to use, to it instead of just a flat piece of plywood. It is a little time consuming with glue this and wait glue that and wait. I am doing a little bit on the seats too, which I need to do anyway to progress. I have taken some pictures and I will try to get them posted tomorrow.

That sure is neat work Mick ... something for me to aspire to. I see you have also pre-drilled the holes for stitching to the molds - Matt you should put that step in your instructions or did I miss that. Anyway, I think I learned a little more here .. thanks.

This really is a great looking boat. The lines of her just seem to flow right to me.

A smaller version would make a great kids boat I reckon. Heck, as she is, she will be a great kids boat. A nine or ten footer, with the same lines and a 10 year old in her would be a beautiful thing .

We are having a really mild autumn here with the days consistently in the high 80s, so the resin is going off nice and quick.

Today was my first day off since my last post on this.
I got a bit more done today.

All external fillets done and sanded' Had to do it all by hand today. Robin is on night shift and had to sleep during the day. At least with her desire to paint the outside, I don't have to be so fussy with the wood-flour staining my ply.





Saturation coats are on.



Matt cut and fitted.



Wet-out coat.



Will clean her up a bit tonight and put another filler coat on.

More clean-up tomorrow and a couple of more coats.
