i would love to see a haiwatha style in stitch and glue. i've actually designed one myself, but i don't have any way to make the flat patterns from my model. i really like the recurve bow and stern and i think a five panel per side would be needed to get it looking right. maybe four. Jem.....if you ever get the itch to play around with a new canoe design. i would build this style immediately! i'm trying to get a canoe built before spring to take my daughter on some canoe camping trips.
my wish:
hiawatha style
16'-17'
hiawatha type canoe wish
Re: hiawatha type canoe wish
close. more recurve on the ends though. i've been looking at your sasquatch (that just sounds wrong) and i may end up ording one. i really like more recurve on the ends though. like this one http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... image&cd=1
and i would like it 16' in length. maybe i could modify the sasquatch to get the look i'm after though.

ahhhhh......better now.
i'll buy those plans the day you make them available. if you do, that is. that's exactly what i'm looking for. i really like the old style but i like the stitch and glue building method too. i was dreading having to cedar strip this thing. i still may in the distant future, but right now, my daughter and i need a canoe for camping trips. i don't want to "settle" on building one, so i figure i'd throw out my wish! i love reading everyone builds here. hopefully soon, i'll post up my own!
Thanks for posting up the picture matt, you're quick!

I've been tinkering with that one for some time. Let me see if I can get those published in the next week or so.

You'll only need 3 sheets for the main hull. More for temp frames but those are disposable and any old ply will do.
