Cleat and splicing block material

Post by bbgobie2 »

First time building
Have the plans for the Sabalo 12 SOT Kayak

If Butt blocking the panels together, is it suitable to use the same marine plywood ? or should solid wood be use? If solid is there a recommended thickness?

Similar question regarding the cleats that go around to support the frames. The plans mention 6mm x 6 mm? So would we just use scrap pieces of marine ply strips? Or would solid wood cut down to 6mm be better?

Thanks

I would just do the fiberglass splices and skip the butt blocks, if you are dead set on butt blocks, you would use plywood.

For the cleating, you should use solid stock ripped down.
