Blue Fin 15-29

The Blue Fin model is the 4th generation of our Sit On Top line up. It features a open cockpit a new subfloor design that is lighter and easier to build.

The hull shape is stream-lined with very little complexity. This leads to higher speeds with the same effort and less hull noise.

Shown above is suggested outfitting with milk-crate, seat, hatches, and foot rests. The open cockpit design eliminates the need to construct a separate tankwell.

The profile is low with a rounded deck to keep windage to a minimum. The top tumble-home panels will help keep the ride dry and and paddle stroking easier.

For those not wanting to draw out the hull parts from plans, we offer a CNC plywood kit and/or full scale paper patterns.

The maximum recommended weight on board is 325 lbs [147k]. At this laod, water will be at the top of the scupper. 400 [181] is the max load.

Cost:

For epoxy and fiberglass, starting price will be about $320 plus shipping in the United States depending on the brand and vendor you choose. This doesn't include items such as varnish, brushes, rollers, mixing sticks, gloves, etc. See our list of trusted suppliers.

For marine grade oukome plywood, price will be about $200 if you pick it up yourself. Delivery cost of full sheets of plywood is expensive.

Labor:

Please Note: On a scale of 1-5 for the required boat building skills need, this design is about 3.5. A builder who has previously worked with fiberglass and stitch-and-glue building before will have no trouble completing this hull. A patient new builder with a good work space can also complete this project with nice results but we recommend starting off with a simpler project first.

The hull will required about 50-65 hours to complete. These times are rough estimates and will vary according to the skill of the builder. Please note these are "hands on" hours and do not include the time waiting for epoxy to cure.
